Disc

I started of my disc by using the Ellipse tool to draw this large circle which will be the bleeding edge for the main finish. Then I found the center of the circle and drew an other circle inside it just a bit smaller which a height of 115.12mm and a width of 115.045mm. Once I got the correct measurement for both circle, I got an image that I wanted to be on my disc. I then selected the image with the selection tool and once i was happy with it, I used the clipping mask tool to click my image into the circle. This made the process easy because i different have to try messing around with different tools trying the get image in the prefect circle.

Work Update

So far I've completed my DVD cover and my logo, the only things I have left to complete is my trailer and disc label. With the disc label I've kind of have an idea in my head of how I want it look. For my trailer I have all the clips I want to use, it's just for me to start clip mask and put it altogether. 

So far things seems to be going okay and I have my work load under control. I should have all of the 3 task completed and ready to hand in before the submission date. 

My next step is to get the disc label complete, which shouldn't take me too long as I have already know how I want it layered out. Then from there all I need to do is spend my time and focus on getting my trailer completed. 

Finish Logo

To get my finish logo I created a path around the image and thicken the stroke line to 1pt and the brush definition to 5pt.Round. I decided to leave it on a white background so that it would be easier to export it on to my DVD Cover and disc. When exported onto my both the disc and DVD cover it was an transparent image which was perfect as I didn't need to do anything else to it. I used the text tool to write M's Kitchen in the same font as on my DVD cover and disc, to keep consistency.   

Creating My Logo

Once I had the perfect image I got stared by using the trace tool and trace around the image. Once that was complete I chose which layers I wanted to keep and which ones to delete. It was a easy process, I tried using the pen tool but I couldn't get it how I wanted. So after a couple of tries I fed up and decided to try something else and the trace tool was my only solution.

The image above is what I was left with after I traced it and deleted the unnecessary parts that weren't not needed.  

My Logo

When creating my logo I had no idea what I wanted to do. I did some research but I couldn't find anything that caught my eyes or interest me in any way. So I decided to search the web for a chef hat spoon and fork logo. The one that caught my eyes was simple but I knew I could recreate it into what I want and expand on it.

I chose to use this as my logo because it would perfectly with project idea, and when I saw it I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Finish Cover

To get the finish product I wanted I had to play around with to get everything in to a place that looked and felt right to me and my eyes.

Everything that I have on my background is a different layer, this is because it's a lot easier to work with. Having them on different layers was helpful especially when things was going right. like for example whenever I would click on my text layer it was always creating a new text layer, if I didn't have the layers it would be hard for me to see this problem.  

With my description on the back I wanted to have bullet points for each point that I was stating, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. So instead at the beginning of every statement I made the capital letter bold and increased the font size. This was so that it was clear and easy to understand where each statement started and ended without using full stops because it wouldn't look right or neat.

For me to get the right images I needed for the information description without the unwanted bits. I had to find an image that would allow me to select would I need and crop it out. For this method i used the selection tool and selected the exact part that I needed, then place it on a different layer and copied it on the my background layer. Placing them in the order that worked best with the layout of the text and images. 

I placed my logo, the BBC logo and DVD logo twice on my cover. This was because I didn't want a lot of blank spaces on the cover or the spine. 

My text font is "Edwardian Script" and for both my spine and front cover. The font for my description is "Arial" as "Edwardian Script" didn't stand out and was too fancy.

Changing DVD Cover Layout

I had to change my initial layout for the DVD cover because I felt it wasn't working in the way I had picture it in my head.



The image below is what my new layout looks like. I choose to do my layout like this because I was having problem trying to fit everything around the original layout. So I tried looking at other covers online but none of them really help, I even tried going into stores to look at cookery DVDs for help but to my surprise they never had any.  My last option was to look at cook books to try get some ideas. By looking at some books I got the idea of swapping my images around and instead of having 4 images on the font I decided to place them on the back in a column. And having one large image on the font.

By placing the one large image on the font cover it made the BBC logo that  I have at the bottom stand out more, clearer  and  easier to read. All the images had to be the same exact size and have equal spacing between them, for it to work in a column. Other wise it wouldn't look right.

With the large image of the font I had to use the selection tool to cut it down to size and keep it below my title, but to still have it fill the cover.

The 4 images on the back cover I had to change the capacity to around 60%, so that the images looks like they are embedding in layer.
